Welcome!!!!!

Hi! I'm Karyn Barnes and I'm excited to be a part of this program. I love being a part of education, and I'm looking forward to entering into a new phase of it. I've been an English teacher for 6 years in GGUSD, and during that time I was a cheer advisor ( I could only handle one year) and volleyball coach, and now I recently became the department chair. I'm definitely looking for a change (and one that does not require grading papers every weekend would be nice!) Plus, I'd like to be in a position to postively and effectively promote positive changes in schools.

Anybody who is a cheer advisor is a saint.

Hi Karyn, the avatar is awesome. I echo your thoughts on wanting to do something that doesn't require grading papers every weekend. I never though that I'd leave classroom teaching, but the person at LA County Office of Ed that recruited me said, "The decision is yours but I have four words for you, Ted, 'no more report cards.'" Enough said. AND, I think I make a difference on a larger scale now. -Ted

Questions

I really like the possibilities that wikispaces provide. One of the SDAIE strategies that we have been focusing on at our site is incorporting group work into the classroom. WIth wikispaces, this will allow students to work on projects together outside of class without having to block out long periods of time to actually physically work together. They can collaborate online and make changes to assignments, which is something that is essentially with high school seniors who often must work to help out their families. I really like the possibility of incorporating more technology into those collaborative pair/share assignments.
